All of the shows in the 2017 Show Search competition were excellent. Congratulations to the 3 college finalist teams and the 3 High School finalist teams. The writers who completed were Jimmy Marino,
Chris Meissner, Mina Bloom, Bailey Share-Aizic, Tristan McIntyre, Maria Hernandez, Jessica Nava, Dylan Schifrin, Juan Solis, Rachel Gilbert, Lillian Mottern, and Jack Zager.
Shows included: (College) Into Light, It's Just a Cup, Murder Afoot, and (high school) Grandmas Keeper, President Fitz, and We're All Mad Here: A Love Story. All shows were workshopped and rehearsed by a professional cast and director after writers made final edits on their shows while working with a mentor in the last month. All shows were presented this afternoon for a panel of judges and audience at Santa Monica College. Finalist teams were each awarded $1000. Today, the final winners were awarded an additional $1000. The college winner was Jimmy Marino for his show "Into Light" and the high school winner was Legacy VAPA students, Jessica Nava (VAPA, '19) and Maria Hernandez (VAPA, '19). We are super proud of our young Musical Theatre writers! They are the only LAUSD students who were finalists.
